About Us

Established in 1998, Miller & Associates is a highly qualified development services provider specializing in the adaptive re-use of historic structures and urban in-fill projects in urban communities throughout Virginia. To date we have developed over one hundred million dollars worth of projects in Richmond, Petersburg, and Staunton.  Our development portfolio includes the adaptive reuse of a wide variety of former commercial, industrial, and public buildings including several hospitals, a furniture store, an elementary school, a bakery, a YMCA, a luggage factory and a synagogue just to name a few.

Over the past 20+ years, Miller & Associates has successfully managed the planning, financing, and development of over 600 residential dwelling units and several commercial projects.  Our firm specializes in the use of federal and state historic tax credits in the adaptive reuse of significant structures.  20 projects in our portfolio of multi-family work have utilized the historic tax credit program.

In addition, Miller & Associates has extensive experience in handling zoning changes by building consensus among community groups, residents, and government officials.  We have successfully navigated the special-use permit process seven times in seven attempts in the City of Richmond and earned numerous rezoning and zoning variances.  Furthermore, Miller & Associates has developed strong partnerships throughout the public, private and non-profit sectors in order to achieve our goal of improving the urban fabric through responsible development.

Our primary goal is to improve the urban environment with quality redevelopment projects that not only are financially successful, but also positively impact the communities and neighborhoods in which we work.  In conjunction with our development work, all sales, marketing, and property management tasks are handled by our sister company, Monroe Properties.  In addition, we operate a fully licensed and insured general contracting company, Horizon Construction Management.  This company holds a Class A license and has extensive experience in both historic renovation and new construction projects.  Together, these companies provide a comprehensive menu of real estate and development services.
